Network rail runs, maintains and develops Britain’s rail tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings, viaducts and stations. This includes 30,000 route kilometres of track (and infrastructure), 43% of this is electrified, with plans to increase this to 55% over the next few year, 32,000 bridges and tunnels, 8,200 commercial properties, 19 key hub stations run by NR out of which 2,500 stations are leased to train operators. 
More than half of all passenger journeys start or finish at one of our 19 key stations. More than 35,000 people are employed by Network Rail.
