ISIG -  Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia

The Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia (ISIG) is an independent research institute recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research. It has the status of a special adviser to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).

ISIG is based on the project of its founder, Franco ISIG Demarchi, to combine a rigorous scientific commitment to research with the engagement in international cooperation for development and peaceful coexistence. Since its foundation in 1968 in Gorizia, a border town in a divided Europe, ISIG has become an internationally recognized centre of excellence for sociological research and a laboratory responding to the needs of the local, national and international communities, by developing new scientific methods and theories.

Its main themes of research are international relations and cross-border cooperation, ethnic relations and minority rights, peace and conflict resolution, society and social policy, the economy and local development, democracy and civil society, and the future of forecasting, land and environmental risk management.
